Allergies & Allergic Reactions: Part 3

Part 3 of Eyelash Enhancements, Allergies and Allergic Reactions

Eyelash Lid Irritation

Extensions themselves can cause irritation of the eyelid skin because they sometimes rub against the eyelid skin while the client is sleeping.  The thicker the extensions, the more irritation they can cause in sensitive individuals.  To rule out mechanical (i.e. non chemical) irritation, try switching to the thinner extensions (.15 mm).  If the symptoms are reduces or eliminated, you can conclude that the adhesive is not the cause.  People with sensitive skin are more likely to suffer eyelid irritation from the friction of thick lash extensions rubbing against the lid.  Make sure the extensions are placed perfectly at the lash line.  If they are too close, they will rub against the lid and cause itching, redness and swelling.  If they are too far away, they’re able to move around too much, which causes more friction and irritation when sleeping.

Eyelash extensions should NOT touch the skin, the extensions should be applied about 1 mm away from the lid.  During a ReLash/Fill appointment, the extensions that have grown beyond 2 mm should be removed and a new extension is applied.  Within the last year there have been more options for thinner lashes, such as .07 and .05.  At EyeDeux, we use a variety of diameters to customize the look and feel for each person.  For a free consultation and to schedule an appointment, click HERE or call us at 757.742.3389.
